TEHRAN (IP) - The Iranian Parliament convened on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, with Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf presiding over the session.

Iran PressIran News: The primary focus of the lawmakers' discussions centered around the qualifications of Abbas Aliabadi, the nominee for the position of Industry, Mine, and Trade Minister, proposed by President Ebrahim Raisi. The parliamentary members engaged in evaluating and debating whether Aliabadi should receive a vote of confidence.

Distinguished attendees at the Parliament's open chamber included First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, Mohammad Eslami, the Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization, and Gholam-Hossein Esmaeili, the chief of staff to the President of Iran.

In addition to the trade minister nominee, the Parliament's agenda encompassed a range of significant reports and bills. These included the report from the Judicial and Legal Commission on the plan to protect reporters exposing corruption, the report from the Economic Commission on the agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Croatia regarding mutual assistance and cooperation in customs matters, the report from the Industries and Mines Commission on the urgent bill to amend the Law on Organizing the Automobile Industry by adding new provisions, and the report from the Social Commission on the urgent bill proposing the establishment of the Ministry of Commerce.

As the discussions continue, the fate of Abbas Aliabadi's nomination hangs in the balance, with parliamentarians meticulously examining his qualifications and preparing to cast their votes.
