Iran Press/ Iran News: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press, Iranian Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour stated that along with many countries and many research institutes in the world, more than 70 research and clinical trials are underway in our country at the moment for the treatment of COVID-19.
"As a result, the efforts of our colleagues in research institutes have led to preliminary results, and if you see today that we have relative success in managing this disease in the country, it is partly due to the results of these studies in recent weeks," the official stated.
Referring to the drug called Favipiravir, Jahanpour said: "It is one of the drugs that is being studied in the country, and even we have the ability to formulate it in the country. As soon as the first reports of clinical trials indicate that the drug can be partially effective in combating COVID-19, and due to the ability of some domestic companies to produce it, a license will be issued immediately for the prescription and distribution of this drug."
"In Japan and China, the first two producers of the drug, studies have not yet been published on the effectiveness of the drug in coronavirus. Of course, we are the third country to have the technology to produce this drug, but we are waiting for the results of clinical studies that our colleagues are conducting in some medical centers."
