Tehran(IP)- The head of the Iranian Space Agency reported a contract to build satellites with an accuracy of less than four meters for the first time in the country.

Iran PressIran news: Hassan Salarieh announced the news at the 27th National Conference and Exhibition on Geomatics Engineering (Geomatics 2023) that was held on May 1, 2023.

Salarieh said: "Relying on local knowledge to design and build Iran's satellites for the first time this year, we are pursuing to implement the contract for the construction of satellites with an accuracy of 4 meters with the cooperation of the private sector."

He recalled that over 30 years ago, when the space industry was formed in the country, the main challenge was sanctioned, just like in other tech fields, and the possibility of high-precision space data for the agency was not available.

The head of the Iranian space agency added that it was necessary to develop the space industry in the country by relying on local knowledge, and the first contract for measuring satellites was made in the early 2000s with the cooperation of universities.

He explained that initially, satellites with 50-meter and 40-meter accuracies were determined for measurement satellites, but now 5-meter and 10-meter accuracy satellites, respectively for black-and-white and colored images are considered in their construction.

Salariyeh went on to conclude: "This year, the Pars satellite series (Pars 1 and 2) and Tolou satellite with 10-meter accuracy (for colored images) are ready to be launched."

He said: "Khayyam satellite images will be provided soon, adding that the images are suitable data for updating maps of one twenty-five thousandths scale."
