The first ever EU-Arab League summit was held at Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, and a final statement of the summit was issued on Monday afternoon, focusing on migration, security, trade and investment, but there was no mention of Iran.

Iran PressAfrica: Despite efforts by some Persian Gulf Arab States to highlight differences with Iran, the final statement of the  EU-Arab League summit was issued on Monday afternoon with no mention of Iran.

The official agenda of the summit aimed to boost cooperation on socio-economic development, trade and investment, energy security, climate change and migration. European Leaders at Sharm el-Sheikh also discussed internal divisions and Brexit, and British Prime Minister Theresa May lobbied other EU leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

With just five weeks to go until the UK leaves the EU on March 29, Theresa May hoped to clinch concessions from the EU to appease her parliamentarians who rejected the Withdrawal Agreement with a historic margin in January. Brexit, of course, was not on the official agenda of the summit but overshadowed the summit to some extent.

According to an Iran Press report, the final communique issued at the end of the summit on Monday afternoon emphasizes regional cooperation on a number of common challenges and common concerns.

The final statement emphasized regional cooperation between EU and Arab countries to overcome common challenges, and to support peace and stability.

The final communique also talked about Middle East Peace, emphasizing the illegal nature of Israeli settlements built in occupied Palestinian territories, and the situation in the Israeli occupied city of al-Quds.

The final statement also talks about socio-economic development, trade, energy security, climate change, migration, and emphasizes that regular meetings between European countries and Arab countries will take place, with the next meeting being scheduled for 2022 in Brussels, Belgium. 211/103
