Iran Press/ Africa: The Foreign Minister of Nigeria Yusuf Maitama Tuggar emphasized that Nigeria will continue to back Palestine against decades of Israeli occupation and aggression, much like its historical support for the liberation movements in South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from Western colonialism.
"A liminal moment is a time of realization that the way things are is no longer sustainable, yet the way thing will become is yet to happen. In other words, a liminal moment is a period of transition. The quest of Palestinians for statehood and the right to exist is going through a transition period in which the world is awakening to the fact that Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank and the institutionalised system of segregation used to administer the territories is neither tenable nor sustainable. Although the violence and carnage being meted out to the Palestinians appears at first glance to strengthen the hands of the Israeli government and provides opportunity for settlers to expand territorial ambitions, a closer examination reveals it to be a pyrrhic victory," the Foreign Minister said.
Resolve Against Historical Injustice
The top Nigerian diplomat added, "The resolve of innocent civilians facing these hardships continues to grow stronger, determined to prevent another Nakba—the term for the exodus following the 1948 partition that created the state of Israel. During that time, many Palestinians lost their homes, never to return. Today, families still hold on to the keys of their lost homes as symbols of a historical injustice passed down through generations, an error that must never be repeated. The struggle for Palestinian statehood stands as the defining liminal moment of our era."
The Foreign Minister underscored Nigeria’s steadfast commitment to combating injustice and racial discrimination, stating, "We deployed resources and energy over three decades towards the liberation of Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Apartheid South Africa. Nigeria follows the dictum of International Relations guru Hans Morgenthau of making ethical foreign policy behaviour an integral part of its state objective."
Nigeria Aids Gaza Children Evacuation
He added that President Tinubu has been deeply concerned about the human suffering in Gaza, particularly among children and women. Consequently, Nigeria collaborated with Red Cross officials and utilized its diplomatic channels to facilitate the evacuation of sick and injured children to Egypt, the UAE, and Jordan. Today, three-year-old Alaa Madhon, nine-month-old Salma Chagu of Khan Yunus, another three-month-old baby named Alaa, and baby Suhail are all alive thanks to Nigeria’s behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts.
While addressing the perceived hypocrisy of Western media, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar reiterated President Bola Ahmad Tinubu's message from the Arab-Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia on November 11. He emphasized that the conflict did not begin on October 7, 2023.
Hypocrisy of Western Media
While addressing the perceived hypocrisy of Western media, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar reaffirmed President Bola Ahmad Tinubu's message from the Arab-Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia on November 11. He stressed that the conflict did not begin on October 7, 2023. President Tinubu underscored that an entire civilian population cannot be dismissed as collateral in seeking revenge for October 7th. He highlighted the contradiction of justifying Israeli aggression against innocent civilians under the guise of a rules-based international order, noting that the core purpose of international law is to rule out revenge. Justice, he argued, is antithetical to revenge.
The statement highlighted Nigeria's urgent call for the global community to take decisive action to ensure the liberation of Palestine, rather than merely offering verbal condemnations.
