The representative of the United Nations in Sudan, said on Monday night: 180 people were killed and 1800 people were injured in the clashes between the army forces and the rapid support militias in this country for the last three days.

Iran PressAmerica: The tense situation in Sudan has sparked broad concerns in the international community, with the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League and other international organizations having called for an immediate ceasefire.

Violent clashes erupted on Saturday between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum and other cities, with the two sides accusing each other of initiating the conflict.

The tension between the two military forces has escalated since Wednesday in the Merowe region in northern Sudan, after the RSF moved military vehicles to a location near the military air base there, a move that the army considered illegal.

The UN envoy in Sudan's affairs, Volker Perthes stressed the need to protect the UN staff in Sudan, stating that efforts are being made to convince the parties to stop the war and declare a ceasefire.

Emphasizing that the priority of the United Nations now is to pave the way toward a political solution and a permanent resolution, Perthes said: "The two warring parties do not seem to want mediation."

Noting that the current situation does not allow sending any humanitarian aid, he said: "There are serious violations of human rights in Sudan." 219
