People in Myanmar continue to defy junta curfews to rally against the military regime as eight were killed reportedly.

Iran press/Asia: At least eight protesters were killed by security forces in Myanmar, witnesses and media have reported, as activists marked the anniversary on Saturday of a student whose killing in 1988 sparked an uprising against the military government.

Three men died in the outskirts of Yangon early Saturday morning, while another three protesters were killed in Mandalay later in the day, local media reports said, adding that all died from gunshot wounds.

The Myanmar army staged a coup on February 1 against the ruling National Democratic Union party, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, in protest of what it called a rigged parliamentary election.

Myanmar military forces have arrested President Win Myint, Aung San Suu Kyi and several other officials. 219
