Middle East (IP) - The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen called the resigned Saudi-affiliated Mansour Hadi's government illegitimate.

Iran PressMiddle East: Southern Transitional Council said in a statement on Friday that the resigned government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, in coordination with extremist elements, has intensified military action against the council.

The Council declared autonomy in the southern Yemeni provinces on Sunday and broke with once-allied Saudi-sponsored militants in Yemen, saying they will establish a self-ruled administration in the war-torn country’s southern regions.

The STC reaffirmed its autonomy in the Friday statement.

Yemeni sources also reported that the forces of the Transitional Council attacked the Saudi allied forces in the center of Socotra province this morning.

It is while Saudi Arabia and the UAE signed an agreement last October to divide power in Aden, southern Yemen, and end the conflict between their proxies.

The security situation in the southern Yemeni cities and provinces has been severely damaged since Saudi and UAE forces took control.
