Iran Press/ Europe: About 10,000 London Underground workers went on strike on Tuesday in protest of the layoffs; the strike is due to be carried out again on Thursday. The protest was announced due to the layoff of 600 London Underground workers and early retirement and is more severe than last November's strike.
On Tuesday, Iran Press correspondent in London visited a number of London Underground stations and faced closed doors and stations; people were confused about how to go home.
The strike was followed by long queues at all London's bus stations, with many Londoners traveling for hours to work or home. London faced heavy traffic on Tuesday.
News sources reported that London Mayor Sadiq Khan was upset because difficult conditions had arisen for Londoners. The London Underground workers' union has called on the mayor of London to resist in the face of ministers from the British Conservative ruling party so as not to put more pressure on Underground workers.
In an interview with Iran Press, a number of Londoners referred to the closure of metro stations in London and said that although the strike was to solve the problems of London Underground workers and was caused by government pressure, it would ultimately harm the people.
