Iran Press/Europe: According to the online "Mirror", British daily tabloid, the huge explosion which has been confirmed as a sonic boom from RAF planes - left homes shaking at around 4.20 am, with many reporting hearing police sirens straight afterward.
The Metropolitan Police said there is no cause for concern.
Police said in a statement: "The loud bang heard throughout north London and surrounding areas was the result of a sonic boom from RAF planes. There is no cause for concern."
Officials said that two Typhoon jets were scrambled after an aircraft lost communications in UK airspace, causing a sonic boom heard over the south-east of the country.
“The aircraft was intercepted and its communications were subsequently re-established. The Typhoons are returning to their base," they said.
