The Israeli ambassador to the UN has stepped up outrage over the UN secretary-general’s comments at the Security Council on Tuesday.

Iran PressAmerica: “I call on him to resign immediately,” Gilad Erdan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“There is no justification or point in talking to those who show compassion for the most terrible atrocities committed against the citizens of Israel and the Jewish people,” he said. “There are simply no words.”

Guterres had said there was no excuse for the “appalling” violence by Hamas fighters on October 7, but also warned against the “collective punishment” of Palestinians and Israel’s violations of international law.

He said the Hamas attack “did not happen in a vacuum”.

Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen canceled his meeting with the United Nation Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Cohen announced on social media that he will not go through with a planned meeting with the UN chief.

The cancellation comes after Guterres said the October 7 attacks by Hamas did not happen “in a vacuum” and Palestinians had been “subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation”.

He also voiced concern over the “clear violations of international humanitarian law” by Israel.

Cohen wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “I will not meet with the UN Secretary-General. After the October 7th massacre, there is no place for a balanced approach. Hamas must be erased off the face of the planet!”

Criticism of Israel after the start of Al-Aqsa storm operation is increasing every day.

Former US President Barack Obama also described the bombing of Gaza as abnormal.

He declared in the statement: "But even as we support Israel, we should also be clear that how Israel prosecutes this fight against Hamas matters. In particular, it matters — as President Biden has repeatedly emphasized — that Israel's military strategy abides by international law, including those laws that seek to avoid, to every extent possible, the death or suffering of civilian populations."
