Iran Press/ Iran news: The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) commemorated Operation Kaman 99 on Sep. 23, 2023.
Major General Amir Hatami, former defense Minister and advisor to the Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, said that the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) successfully carried out Operation Kaman 99.
He said that the East and West believed that the Islamic Revolution must be demolished and deteriorated and Iran should be divided, so they supported former Baath regime dictator Saddam Hussein, but IRIAF did not let that happen.
On September 22, 1980, the Iraqi Ba'athist regime, supported by the West, initiated an imposed war on Iran, which took eight years.
Operation Alborz, more commonly known by the code-name Operation Kaman 99, was an operation launched by the Iranian Air Force in retaliation to Iraqi surprise aerial attacks on Iran the day before, which marked the beginning of the 8-year-long Iran–Iraq War.
Operation Kaman 99 is considered the largest operation carried out by the IRIAF. The outcome was clearly successful, as the Iranians achieved air superiority for the first years of the conflict.
