Abuja(IP): The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has organized an annual conference and exhibition on Saturday evening in Abuja to mark the 2015 Zaria massacre.

Iran Press/Africa: In 2015 Zaria massacre, an incident in which the Nigerian army under the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Yusuf Tukur Buratai with order from the then-President, Muhammadu Buhari attacked Shi'a muslims' center, Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, resident of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, cemetery and mosque, all located in Zaria city of Kaduna State, where they opened fire with live ammunition, killed more than 1000 armless civilians among them pregnant women and children.

After opening prayer in the program, group of student youth from Kash-shafatul Mahdi Scout sang song of praising martyrs. Ibrahim Difa of Gombe State University who spoke in the event said: "The Zaria massacre not only constitutes one of the most significant heartbreaking development that took place in Nigeria in the colonial and post-colonial period, but also one of the most classical examples of violations of the sanctity, sacredness and holiness of the human life."

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Zakzaky, who was the primary target of Nigerian Government during the Zaria massacre and who survived several gunshots with his wife and also whom six of their children were killed have attended the commemorations. Sheikh Zakzaky in his remark said the December 2015 Zaria massacre was only executed by the Nigerian Government but the Israeli regime, the United States and Saudi Arabia were the masterminds.

He emphasized that the hands that conducted the Zaria massacre are the hands now conducting genocide in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.

In December 2016, Federal High Court in Abuja acquitted Sheikh Zakzaky of all criminal charges against him, and ordered Federal Government to release him and pay him compensation but the then administration refused to comply with the order.

On 29 July 2021, another Court ruled in favor of Sheikh Zakzaky who had been in detention since 14 December 2015, in which the judge ordered for his release. 219
