Tehran (IP) - In a significant display of military capabilities, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has released new footage showcasing its surveillance of U.S. and allied naval vessels in the Persian Gulf. The video, which emerged recently, features detailed images of several key military assets, including a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock (LPD) and a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship from the U.S. Navy, as well as the Spanish helicopter carrier Juan Carlos I.

Iran PressIran news: This release coincided with a ceremony marking the IRGC Navy's acquisition of 2,640 missile systems, drones, and other military equipment, underscoring Iran's ongoing efforts to bolster its maritime strength amid rising regional tensions.

These tensions have escalated dramatically following the Israeli assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. In response, Iran has vowed to retaliate against Israel.

The IRGC's release of surveillance footage is not unprecedented. In April 2021, Iranian drones captured close-up images of an American aircraft carrier during an overflight in the Persian Gulf. The footage, recorded by a four-strong drone squadron, provided real-time, detailed views of the carrier’s deck, revealing every warplane and military asset on board.

General Kenneth McKenzie, the former head of the United States Central Command, highlighted the implications of these developments in his testimony before Congress. He noted that Iran’s extensive use of drones has challenged U.S. air superiority in the region, a dominance that had remained unchallenged since the Korean War.

In a similar incident in 2019, Iranian media showcased high-quality footage of an Ababil-III surveillance drone flying over the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, further demonstrating Iran's growing surveillance capabilities.
