The President of Iraq has emphasized the importance of strengthening relations and cooperation between the two countries and the two friendly nations of Iran and Iraq in various fields, including energy and trade.

Iran Press/Middle East: Abdul Latif Rashid, in a meeting with the Undersecretary of Iran's Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani and the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq on Tuesday, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iraq and Iran in the fields of energy and trade.

Abdul Latif Rashid conveyed Bagheri Kani his greetings and appreciation to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and to President Ebrahim Raisi and Iran's government, wishing continued prosperity and progress for the Iranian nation.

The Iraqi President of the Republic expressed his "thanks to the Islamic Republic for its stances in supporting Iraq," stressing the importance of "coordination and cooperation between the two neighboring countries on issues of common concern."

He pointed out that "the openness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the countries of the region and the restoration of relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a positive factor for the consolidation of security and peace," pointing to the need to "strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy and trade."

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs stressed the importance of "developing relations between the two countries and expanding the prospects of cooperation in a way that serves the common interests of the two neighboring peoples, and that Iraq and Iran have a great history of joint cooperation."

Bagheri Kani conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the Iranian leadership to the President of Iraq.

He pointed to "the great capabilities of the two countries and their pivotal role in the region in consolidating security and stability," expressing his thanks and appreciation for the President's keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries and the constructive and strategic view on developments in the region.

Bagheri Kani also praised the positions of the late President Mam Jalal Talabani and his support for relations between the two countries.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bagheri Kani held a round of political consultations with his Iraqi counterpart Muhammad Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum, discussing all bilateral, regional, and international issues, and deliberating on ways and means to overcome obstacles to bilateral cooperation at various levels.
