Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi

Iraqi political parties signed an agreement, giving the Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi a 45-day opportunity to reform and address the protesters’ demands.

Iran PressMiddle East: The most important clauses of the agreement signed by 12 Iraqi political groups include reforming the law of election to create equal opportunities for independent candidates, forming a new election commission, and sweeping reform in the cabinet without expecting to have a share.

The signatories of the agreement called on the government and security parties to identify those responsible for the abduction of the demonstrators and to try to identify the perpetrators of the shooting who killed the protesters and targeted the media.

Beginning since Oct. 1, some Iraqi cities have witnessed demonstrations in recent weeks in protest to inadequate public services, lack of jobs, particularly for young people, and bureaucratic corruption.

The Iraqi government meanwhile has submitted four packages, and introduced reforms, over the past month trying to meet some of the demands of the demonstrators.205/214
