In many Iraqi cities the big images of the late commander of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps’ Quds Force Lt Gen Qassem Soleimani and the late Deputy Commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) or al-Hashd al-Shaabi Au Mahdi Al-Muhandis, have been installed in the streets, avenues and the neighborhoods as well as entrances of the houses.

Iran PressMiddle East: Also, commemoration ceremonies for the first martyrdom anniversary of these martyrs have been and will be held in different provinces of Iraq.

Lt Gen Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and a number of their companions were martyred on Friday morning, January 3, 2020, in an airstrike by the US terrorists near the airport in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.

General Soleimani had traveled to Iraq on the official invitation of the Iraqi government.

According to the Pentagon, the airstrikes were ordered by President Donald Trump.

Many countries, organizations, and groups have condemned this terrorist act of the United States.

Lt Gen Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were prominent figures in the fight against takfiri and terrorist groups, including ISIS, in the West Asian region.

Hadi al-Amiri, the secretary-general of the Iraqi Badr Organization, said on Friday: "Martyr Soleimani was always on the front lines of the fight against terrorist groups and was martyred on the way to Iraq."
