Iranian expatriates in Europe have expressed strong disapproval of the recent EU and UK decision to ban Iranian airlines from European airspace, calling on European capitals to reconsider the restriction.

Iran PressEurope:  The European Union, on October 14, sanctioned three Iranian airlines — Iran Air, Mahan Air, and Saha Airlines — citing allegations, which Iran denies, of Iranian involvement in the Ukraine conflict through ballistic missile supplies to Russia.

A group of Iranian citizens living in Europe conveyed their dismay in a petition, voicing concerns about the impact of these sanctions on their ability to travel.

The petition emphasized that hundreds of thousands of Iranian passengers in Europe rely on Iranian airlines to visit family and friends in Tehran. The new restrictions, they argue, disproportionately disrupt travel plans, particularly for elderly and disabled passengers who rely on direct flights for convenience.

Iran’s Human Rights Council also addressed the issue by sending a letter to the United Nations Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The council criticized the EU's sanctions, urging the development of creative solutions to counter unilateral sanctions, which it described as "weapons of economic warfare" and "crimes against humanity."
