Iran Press/Iran news: In a statement posted on the social media platform X on Tuesday, Araghchi argued that the ban unfairly affects ordinary Iranians and international travelers, calling it a response to “false and baseless claims” regarding Iranian military support to Russia.
“The EU recently targeted ordinary Iranians and travelers by banning our airlines from Europe,” Araghchi wrote. “This decision was made on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Russia for use in #Ukraine.”
Araghchi’s remarks come after the EU accused Iran of supplying ballistic missiles to Russia in connection with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Iranian foreign minister, however, pointed to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who reportedly confirmed that no Iranian missiles have been delivered to Russia.
“It’s high time for the EU to end this farce,” Araghchi added. “Targeting ordinary Iranians without solid evidence is both immoral and fundamentally wrong. This decision must be reversed immediately.”
The EU introduced sanctions on Iran Air along with two other Iranian airlines on October 15, citing alleged concerns over arms shipments.
