Iran Press/Iran news: The protest rally was held in front of UN offices in Tehran on Wednesday to condemn the Nigerian government's poisoning of Sheik Ibrahim Zakzaky, with people from all walks of life taking part in the protest.
One of the protesters in an exclusive interview with Iran Press said: "This protest rally has been organised purposefully to show the solidarity of the Iranian people with Sheik Zakzaky and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria."
He said: "We want the United Nations and other international organisation to tell the truth and support justice and fairness. These organisations must help Sheik Zakzaky because his health condition is poor and he is suffering from many illnesses and recently he has been poisoned by the Nigerian government."
Another protester in the rally said: "We want the United Nations and human rights organisations to avoid the selective view from the East and the West."
She added: "UN and other international organisation should not consider all human rights just for Westerners and brand all terrorist groups as Eastern. They should treat people from all over the world equally, based on the universal human rights declaration."
Sheik Zakzaky was seriously wounded and detained in a brutal raid on his residence in the northern Nigerian town of Zaria back in December 20-15. More than 300 of his followers and three of his sons were killed during the raid.
Despite court verdicts that the Muslim cleric must be released, the Nigerian government has refused to set him free. Earlier this week, a U-K-based N-G-O voiced concern over the health condition of the detained cleric. 101/211
