Iranian master cancels Istanbul concert in support of Kurds

Internationally acclaimed Iranian Musician, Keyhan Kalhor canceled an Istanbul concert after Turkey's offensive against Syria.

Iran Press/Iran News: Keyhan Kalhor, a prominent Iranian musician and virtuoso on kamancheh -- a traditional Iranian bowed string instrument -- on the sidelines of a performance in London, stated that he would cancel an Istanbul concert in protest to Turkish airstrikes and invasion in northern Syria.

This act was generally welcomed by the artist's audience at the concert as well as the general public, and enthusiasts and supporters of Kalhor on cyberspace, especially social media, Iran Press reported.

The courteous gesture was seen as a part of Kalhor's commitment to art.

On October 9, Ankara launched a new military operation in northern Syria dubbed Peace Spring, which began with airstrikes on positions of Kurdish units.

The objective is to create a buffer zone in northern Syria where Syrian refugees could return from Turkey, Ankara claims.

The buffer zone will also establish a security belt along the Turkish border. The Syrian SANA news agency branded the operation as aggression, while the international community condemned Ankara’s actions.    101/211/219
