Iran (IP) - A marine science researcher from the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science won the award of Germany's Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Iran PressIran news: Farzaneh Momtazi managed to receive a one-year scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for her work on the impact of climate change on the distribution of bipeds in the Persian Gulf.

This is the first time an Iranian researcher has won this zoology and marine sciences award.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a foundation established by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. It promotes international academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars from Germany and abroad.

The Foundation grants more than 700 competitive research fellowships and awards every year, primarily to academics from natural sciences (mathematics included) and the humanities.

Also, the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science is a research center established by Iran's Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 1992, titled 'Iran Oceanography Center' to perform research in oceanography. 

In March 2010, the organization was renamed 'Iranian National Center for Oceanography (INCO). In June 2013, the organization was again renamed to 'Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science (INIOAS). 

Farzaneh Momtazi is a faculty member of the INIOAS.
