Tehran (IP)- Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs on Sunday night, in his meeting with UN official for assessment of Afghan affairs, expressed the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to advance regional initiatives about Afghanistan.

Iran PressIran News: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a Sunday meeting with Feridun Sinirlioglu, the special coordinator of the United Nations secretary-general for the independent assessment of Afghanistan affairs, expressed pleasure with Sinirlioglu's appointment to the position. He also announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to advance regional initiatives with the central role of the United Nations on the issue of Afghanistan.

Iranian Foreign Minister also said the formation of an inclusive government and the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan were essential and emphasized the need to support regional initiatives, especially within the neighbors' framework, to help resolve the challenges of Afghanistan.

He added: "Afghanistan needs urgent solutions and if the international community does not pay serious attention to the security challenges of this country caused by the movements of terrorist groups, its negative consequences will affect the region and the world."

Amir-Abdollahian described Sinirlioglu's mission as complex under the current circumstances and expressed hope that due to his helpful experience and professional background, he would have a more accurate assessment of the realities of Afghanistan and that the mission would be completed successfully.

Feridun Sinirlioglu, the UN official for assessment of Afghan affairs, expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to exchange views and hold talks with the Iranian foreign minister.

He presented his assessment of the developments and situation of Afghanistan in various political and security dimensions, expressing the resolve of the United Nations to support regional initiatives and the neighbors' framework to help form an inclusive government in the country.
