Abuja (IP)- The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Abuja organized a very colorful celebration of Eid al-Ghadeer on Wednesday, in which ambassadors from Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq participated apart from intellectuals and scholars from Nigeria.

Iran PressAfrica: Eid al Ghadeer is considered the biggest feast in Islam, especially for the followers of Ahlulbayt (as). It was the day that the Islamic prophet Muhammad appointed Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib as his successor on 18 of the month of Zhul-Hijjah.

During the celebration held at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Abuja, an Iranian Qari, Amin Hassani, opened the event by recitation verses from the holy Quran.

Then Iran's Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammad Alibak, talked about the importance of the Eid al Ghadeer and concluded his speech by the condemnation of Sweden's desecration of Islamic sanctities, which sparked the outrage of the world's Muslims.

Aliback said: "What is the meaning of freedom? Is it freedom for anyone to insult holy things and religion? The religion of Islam does allow anyone to insult someone's religion or beliefs. Such actions are condemned and governments should not allow anyone to insult people's religion and beliefs."

As another speaker in the celebration, Sheikh Umar Abubakar Kumo from Gombe State, who is the Head of the Ahlulbayt Muslim Community in Nigeria, narrated how the holy Prophet Muhammad established a school of Ghadeer: "Imam Ali was the preserver of Islam. He was the protector of the religion."

Dr. Yusha'u, who was sent to represent the leader of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Zakzaky, at the Eid Ghadeer celebration, was also given an opportunity to deliver a speech about the appointment of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib as the Muslims' first leader.
