Iran Press/Iran news: In a Saturday tweet, Chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh wrote: “If the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) is placed on America’s list of terrorist groups, we will place that country’s military on our terror blacklist besides Daesh [ISIS] terrorists.”
The remarks came after a report by the Wall Street Journal which claimed that US officials will designate IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization, Iran Press reported.
The move could be announced as early as Monday, April 8, according to the Wall Street Journal. If carried out, it will mark the first time another country's military has been branded as a terrorist group.
The move is controversial and has divided Trump administration officials.
US National security adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have been strong proponents of the move, US officials said. However, senior officials within the Pentagon and CIA are against the move.
Iran has categorically slammed any suggestion that the IRGC be listed as a terrorist group. 105/211
