Iran Press/West Asia: Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, met with Ali Bagheri Kani, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation emergency meeting in Jeddah.
During the meeting, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the initiative of the Somali government for the restoration of relations between the two countries and emphasized:
"We believe that Islamic countries should strengthen their relations in line with common interests and confront the enemies of the Islamic world, and we have no restrictions on the development and expansion of relations with African countries."
Referring to the crimes the Israeli regime has committed in the past ten months against the people of Gaza Bagheri Kani noted:
"Experience has proven that Israel is not only a threat to the Palestinian people, but also a threat to the entire Islamic world, and Islamic countries must have a voice, policy, and practical action against the threat of the Zionist regime. "
The new foreign minister of Somalia, for his part, explained the African country's position in supporting the Palestinian issue, condemned Israel's aggression against the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and expressed his condolences on the occasion of the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh.
He emphasized: "We respect the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting the Palestinian issue and defending the rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia also appreciated Iran's support for the stability and security of Somalia in dealing with the sinister phenomenon of terrorism and noted that his country is trying to develop and deepen the relations between Mogadishu and Tehran and open a new page in the relations between the two countries.
