Tehran (IP) - The Iranian foreign minister has written a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, calling for holding to account Israeli regime war criminals for the ongoing Gaza onslaught.

Iran PressIran news: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian inked a letter on Wednesday to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, in which he condemned the gross and systematic violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people by the Israeli regime, emphasizing that he expects the UN official and other human rights mechanisms of the United Nations to immediately stop the attacks of the Israeli regime and punish the rulers of the regime and hold them to account for committing crimes against humanity and war crimes.

"The statements by the authorities of the Israeli regime together with the widespread and systematic attacks of the Zionist regime military in the Gaza Strip show that this is a campaign for the genocide of the Palestinian people," the Iranian foreign minister added.

"The forced displacement of the Palestinian people by the Israeli regime and the entry of this regime's forces into Gaza for 'ethnic cleansing' is in blatant violation of international law. Palestinians are not safe anywhere in Gaza, because the Israeli regime has imposed a 'total siege' on this small area and has illegally cut off water, food, fuel, and electricity," he added.

He criticized the inaction on the part of the international community against the Israeli regime crimes as a catalyst for the Israeli war criminals to intensify their campaign, calling for serious action to hold the regime's ruler accountable.

Israel waged a war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

Since the start of the Israeli aggression, more than 5,000 Palestinians have been killed.

Tel Aviv has also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the coastal strip into a humanitarian crisis.

The regime has further ordered 1.1 million people north of Gaza to evacuate and move south of the coastal sliver.

However, it has continued to rain down bombs on the south, killing many Palestinians.

The United Nations says about half of the Palestinians in Gaza have been made homeless, still trapped inside the besieged enclave.

The world body’s human rights office says Israel’s complete siege of Gaza and the evacuation order could amount to a forcible transfer of civilians, breaching international law.
