Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Iranian negotiating team is trying to change the US illegal stance on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement through mediators.

Iran PressIran news: With regard to the economic issues of the country including the problems with the people's livelihood, he told reporters that it would take time to compensate for the wrong policies of the previous policies which tied the country's fate to ties with a few number of the Western countries through signing the so-called JCPOA.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, June 12, Nasser Kanaani told reporters that the efforts are going on seriously by the foreign ministry and the administration to secure the process of negotiations.

Kanaani said from the very beginning of its term, the Raisi administration adopted clear policies with regard to the JCPOA issue that the JCPOA is not the focal point of the Iranian foreign policy but just part of it.

"In any agreement, the negotiating team takes into consideration the Leader of Islamic Revolution's firm and logical recommendations as well as the strategic action law passed by the parliament, to ensure the maximum interests of the country while not deviating from the red lines," he stressed.

The MFA spokesman said the negotiations will go on based on the very principles so that a desired result is achieved including the release of the Iranian nation's blocked assets.

Iran's international nuclear agreement or the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed between the country and P5+1 countries (Russia, China, UK, Germany, France, and the US) in 2015, to lift the West's sanctions on Iran, but the US scrapped it on May 18, 2018, re-imposing more sanctions on Iran.

According to the agreement Iran was supposed to curb some of its legal nuclear activities and the other side was supposed to lift sanctions on the Iranian nation. The Western parties did not fulfill their commitments to the deal contrary to Iran which began to carry out the obligations and fulfilled them.

No Alternative to JCPOA

According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tehran still does not have an alternative to the JCPOA nuclear agreement in the form of interim agreements or other mechanisms.

Nasser Kanaani stated that Oman's assistance has been welcomed in mobilizing negotiations to lift sanctions. Messages were exchanged through Oman with the United States, and talks continue within this framework.

Kanaani added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is utilizing its resources to secure national interests and has used Oman's initiatives as a friendly country.

"The basis for lifting sanctions negotiations is the JCPOA agreement, and there is no new framework," the spokesperson stated, adding that most news published regarding interim agreements is media speculation, and some parties publish news with political motives to disrupt current negotiations.

The Ministry does not confirm any negotiations for an interim agreement or alternative to the JCPOA. Regarding Muscat negotiations, the spokesperson said they have not been secret, and indirect talks are conducted through Oman. However, media propaganda regarding Robert Malley's meeting with Iran's ambassador to the UN is not a concern for Iran.

Tehran seriously pursues prisoners swap with USA due to humanitarian concerns

The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Iran unlike the USA seriously pursues prisoners swap with the USA due to its humanitarian aspect.

kanaani while referring to the issue of the prisoner swap with the USA said: "We hope to witness this happening because we have made all the necessary efforts in this regard, looking at the humanitarian aspect of this issue, the negotiations are continuing through intermediaries, and we can be satisfied in case the other side also accepts it to show seriousness like Iran, this can happen in the near future, so we are waiting for the results of diplomatic talks and negotiations through mediators in this field. The Resolution of the Islamic Republic of Iran is that the talks for the exchange of prisoners can happen in the near future.

Restoring ties with Egypt and Libya

According to Nasser kanaani, Iran's clear position has been announced before and the Leader has expressed His Eminence's opinion in this regard in a meeting with the Sultan of Oman.

He further reinterred: "If the Egyptian government is willing to resume relations with Islamic Republic of Iran We welcome this approach and will take a reciprocal step in this regard."

Regarding Libya, Kanaai elaborated that Libya is an important Islamic country and stability in that country is important for us.

"Soon we will appoint an ambassador to Libya and we hope to witness the resumption of the Iranian embassy in Tripoli by sending him," stated he.

Kanaani: Iran, Bahrain ties to be resumed when grounds paved

Iran's Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Bahraini government officials voiced readiness to resume diplomatic ties with Iran but at the same time, he said it is provided that the necessary preliminary grounds for the resumption of official relations between the two countries would be provided.

Elsewhere at his news conference Iran's Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "Bahraini government officials voiced their readiness to restore their ties with Iran and we are interested in expanding and developing relations with all Islamic, Arab and neighboring countries, and at the same time, the necessary preliminary grounds for the resumption of official relations between the two countries must be paved, and God willing, this step will take place."

Kanaani further expressed hope that with the trend being witnessed in the region, Tehran will see a positive trend in relations with Bahrain, provided that the preparations are made.

Furthermore, He also said about the reopening of Saudi diplomatic facilities in Iran, saying: "The process of implementing the agreements between the two countries has progressed with good speed from the parties and we can say that there were no obstacles in the process of implementing the agreement."

He continued: "In connection with the reopening of the Saudi embassy and the consulate general of this country in Mashhad, the necessary grounds and platforms have been provided, and based on the invitation that Amir-Abdullahian made to his Saudi counterpart to visit Tehran, in the near future we will witness the visit of the Saudi foreign minister to Tehran, and based on the preliminary steps that the Saudi delegation in Iran has taken, we think that in the near future, we will see the opening of the Saudi embassy and consulate general in Iran. We are in good condition in the official process of relations between the two countries, and the recent talks between the two ministers in Cape Town were useful and productive."

He also called the presence of American forces in Syria illegal and a violation of international laws and a flagrant violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and said: "Considering the repeated requests of the Syrian government to leave the territory of this country, we support this position of Syria. Any US military activity in Syria is illegal and they must end these actions and activities."
