Iranian Zarif due in New York on Jan. 9

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will be in New York on January 9 to attend a UN Security Council meeting.

Iran Press/Iran news: The meeting will be held at the invitation of Vietnam, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council.

The US Treasury Department announced on June 24 that Iran's Foreign Minister would be sanctioned as part of the ‘maximum pressure’ campaign on Iran later that week.

According to the sanctions, Zarif, during his stay in New York city to attend the annual meeting of the high-ranking officials of the United Nations Economic and Social Council was allowed to set foot in just three buildings in New York. There were very strict restrictions on Zarif's movements in New York, something that has angered the international community with serious concerns over the way the US government treats diplomats who must legally be allowed to attend United Nations meetings in New York.
