In a meeting with UN Secretary-General Anthony Guterres, the First Vice President said that holding a referendum is the only solution for the Palestinians to determine their destiny.

Iran PressAfrica: In a meeting, on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Uganda, Iran's First Vice President, Mohammad Mokhber, and UN Secretary-General Anthony Guterres discussed important regional issues, including the recent events in Gaza.

In this meeting, Mokhber emphasized that the Israeli regime has not adhered to any of the international laws and treaties, especially halting settlement constructions, according to the testimony of all the UN secretaries-general.

He added: "From this point of view, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not consider the two-state solution as a solution to the Palestinian issue, but believes that the only democratic solution to this crisis is a referendum participated by all the Palestinian people to determine their destiny, without the interference of others."

Iran’s First Vice-president Mohammad Mokhber has criticized the veto power existing in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling it an unfair mechanism that weakens the UN position.

The unfair mechanism of the veto power has weakened the position of the UN, Mokhber said on Saturday, adding that if such a power had not existed, many Palestinian women and children would have not been killed because of Security Council resolutions vetoed by the United States.

The Iranian VP made the comments as he met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Uganda’s capital Kampala on the sidelines of the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Mokhber and Guterres discussed key regional issues including the Gaza war, with both expressing sadness over crimes being committed against Palestinians in the besieged territory.

Guterres said that Iran should act as one of the main pillars of what he called a new Western Asia where the country should play an active role in promoting peace. 219
