Shiraz (IP) - As the third ten-day of Muharram month arrived, the national festival of Ashura mourning songs was held in Shiraz, the capital of Fars Province in the south of Iran.

Iran PressIran News: Local music for morning Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom has its own specific identity in different parts of Iran, which indicates the aesthetic diversity of Ashura-related arts in the country.

About 13 song groups of Ashura song performers participated in the festival from 13 provinces, including Fars, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Lorestan, Kordestan, Isfahan, Yazd, Razavi Khorasan, South Khorasan, and Golestan.

The participant performed local morning rituals symbolically, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) on Ashura day in Karbala of Iraq.

Keeping the local traditional Ashura mourning rituals, considered the intangible heritage of Iran, was the event's goal.

Based on research studies, 100 Ashura rituals have been identified nationwide to be performed in the subsequent editions of Ashura mourning rituals.

The first edition of the Ashura mourning songs national festival was also held in Shiraz last year.
