Iran Press/Europe: The 16th BRICS summit kicked off on Wednesday in Kazan, Russia, with leaders from member countries, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, who represents the Islamic Republic in its first official participation in a BRICS summit.
On Wednesday October 23, at the main meeting of the BRICS leaders in Kazan, Russia, Masoud Pezeshkian stated that since BRICS seeks significant goals in all three fields of political-security, economic-financial and cultural-people, with his performance, he has shown that he will play a special role in the process of political equations and related developments in the future, adding: "In the framework of the multilateralism paradigm, BRICS is a leading example and a successful model of developed cooperation in the heart of the Global South, which has attracted a wide range of countries.
Iran's President added: "Concerning the acceleration of global developments and the threat to peace and human security in the West Asian region, fortunately, during the last year, important steps were taken to resolve international regional crises. Holding an extraordinary summit of BRICS leaders focusing on the issue of Gaza, as well as other meetings at the level of deputy ministers of foreign affairs, are examples of cooperation in this period and have brought good results."
The President stressed: "The Islamic Republic of Iran demands an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine and Lebanon while urging the complete withdrawal of the Israeli regime from the occupied areas, and immediate relief to the people of Gaza and the displaced people of Lebanon.
Pezeshkian stating that the Global South is struggling with inequality, injustice, and economic problems, said: "The current and future generations will measure the success of BRICS with numbers and the level of development and transformation in the growth of economic indicators.
The Iranian President announced: "Considering that in recent months, various meetings have been held with the presence of the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Commerce, Energy, and heads of central banks, I would like to make the following suggestions."
Pezeshkian Proposals to BRICS
Pezeshkian added: "While not neglecting the political-security and cultural fields, in the coming year we should give priority to economic-financial issues in our plans and urge all the public and private institutions of our respective countries to step up their movement in creating interconnected economic and Increase trade and the use of capacities within BRICS.
Regarding his second suggestion, Pezeshkian noted: "One of the most important challenges that unilateralist countries have imposed against independent and freedom-seeking countries is economic sanctions. Years ago, the number of countries under sanctions was not significant but now millions of people in dozens of countries have been targeted by sanctions in various dimensions in an illegal process and against human rights."
Pezeshkian stressed: "Countering illegal sanctions requires collective action and the implementation of joint mechanisms. Fortunately, BRICS has stated its opposition to the sanctions many times and some of them have been clearly reflected in the Kazan declaration and other documents, but in order to stand against any country which imposes sanctions on others in the future, it is necessary to take practical and calculated steps."
Presenting his third proposal at the BRICS summit, he said: "Currently, most of the world's countries are dissatisfied with the fact that the US uses its dollar as a weapon or a tool to control other countries to solve its internal and financial problems."
The world knows BRICS intends to try to reduce the strength of the dollar and increase exchanges with national currencies. These actions, along with the launch and use of digital currencies and the foundation for the use of new financial mechanisms and technologies such as messengers, are in line with the main goals of BRICS, Pezeshkian noted.
He added: "The fact that BRICS member countries are the largest producers and at the same time the largest consumers of energy, food, and other goods while having access to the most important transportation and transit lines offers a great advantage that makes it easy to carry out exchanges with national currencies."
By stating that the Global North has always blocked the access of the Southern bloc to new technologies, Pezeshkian delineated his fourth proposal: "We have to equip ourselves with new technologies by sharing efforts, exchanging information, joint investment, and other measures."
Pezeshkian explaining his fifth proposal, said: "It is necessary to strengthen the New Development Bank (NDB), which is one of the institutions emerging from BRICS, and by accepting new members and increasing capital, it can take steps toward developing the infrastructure of these countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to have close cooperation with this bank."
Pezeshkian noting Iran's capacities, concluded: "The Islamic Republic of Iran, with its strategic location, is the passageway of several international transport corridors, including the North-South and East-West corridors, and we can develop a new network of transit relations for the transfer of energy or commercial goods through the development of constructive cooperation."
