Tehran (IP) - Forty-one years have passed since the kidnapping of four Iranian diplomats, Seyyed Mohsen Mousavi, Ahmad Motevasselian, Kazem Akhavan, and Taghi Rastegar Moghaddam, by the mercenaries of the Israeli regime in Lebanon, which was under the occupation of the regime back then.

Iran PressIran News: On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran honors the memory of these martyrs and expresses sympathy with their respected families, emphasizing that this incident has various legal, political and human dimensions that have constantly been pursued by the foreign policy apparatus with seriousness for more than four decades.

The pursuit aimed at determining the fate of the abducted diplomats has, however, remained fruitless to this day, despite extensive political and legal efforts and follow-ups with the Lebanese government and international and human rights institutions, and due to the irresponsibility of the Zionist regime and the perpetrators of the abduction and the loss of evidence and documents with the passage of time and irresponsibility and lack of serious and effective action on the part of the relevant international institutions.

The incident took place during the occupation of Lebanon by the Zionist regime, and the principles and rules of international law, especially the Geneva Conventions of 1949, stipulate that during the occupation, the occupying forces have a responsibility toward the territory’s people, its government and third parties to establish public order and protect lives and property; therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran sees the Zionist regime and its supporters as the parties responsible for all the aspects of this abduction and terror act and calls on the responsible international and human rights institutions to accept their legal and humanitarian responsibilities in that regard, take the necessary measures to put pressure on the Zionist regime, make this regime accountable for maximum cooperation in clarifying the fate of these loved ones, and provide the grounds for punishing the perpetrators of this crime and violators of international law, especially diplomatic rights.

The friendly and brotherly government of Lebanon is also expected to take effective political and legal measures at both domestic and international levels to help determine the fate of the kidnapped Iranian diplomats.

In the end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes once again that it will diligently continue to pursue the issue until the fate of its kidnapped diplomats in Lebanon is determined.
