Tehran (IP) - The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament stresses the consolidation of parliamentary relations with Russia.

Iran PressIran news: In a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin on Monday, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf congratulated the re-election of the Russian Duma Speaker and stressed cementing of the two countries’ parliamentary ties. 

“The Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran (Parliament) welcomes and supports the meetings of the Joint Economic Commission and the Joint Parliamentary High Commission between the two countries to maintain and continue economic and trade cooperation,” Ghalibaf said.

Ghalibaf also stressed the role of the parliaments of Iran and Russia in facilitating the cooperation between the two governments in political, economic, and cultural spheres.

The Russian Duma Speaker, for his part, emphasized the expansion of parliamentary cooperation in different levels: “Relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect, and our goal is to develop and strengthen interactions and the implementation of agreements.”

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is on a visit to Moscow at the head of a high-ranking military delegation to develop cooperation with the Russian Federation.

He traveled to Moscow at the official invitation of the Russian Defense Minister General Sergei Shoigu. 

Reza Khosravi-Moqaddam, the military attaché of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Russian Federation, said Bagheri is scheduled to discuss and exchange views with the Russian officials on the development of cooperation and joint defense and military relations, the fight against terrorism, and investigating regional and international changes.

The visit will also focus on Afghanistan. 

“I have been invited by the Russian defense minister and in addition to bilateral military issues that need follow-up, Afghanistan is among special issues that both sides will discuss,” Bagheri said.

Before he visited Moscow, Bagheri visited Pakistan.
