Tehran (IP) - Asadollah Asadi, the Iranian diplomat who was recently released from Belgian prison, met and talked with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Saturday.

Iran PressIran News: Asadollah Asadi, the Iranian diplomat who was taken hostage, on the 5th of Khordad 1402 (May 26) returned to his homeland after five years of captivity in Belgium.

The diplomat of the Iranian Embassy in Austria was arrested on Tir 11, 1397 (July 2, 2018) while spending his holidays near the city of Aschaffenburg located in the state of Bavaria, Germany, with an arrest warrant issued by the Belgian government in the European Union.

According to Iran press, in this meeting, Amir- Abdollahian praised his commendable endurance during the long period of illegal and exhausting detention in Belgian prisons.

Hossein Amir- Abdollahian said: "The government, the diplomatic apparatus, and the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, following the illegal arrest and baseless accusation against Mr. Asadi and the flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention, used all their power and capacity and by adopting positions and Logical and decisive steps, fortunately, today we are witnessing the fruition of these efforts and your presence in the country.
