Tehran (IP) – Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff has categorically denied claims about the causes of the helicopter crash that killed former President Ebrahim Raisi and several officials last year, saying that it was a tragic accident caused by adverse weather conditions.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a statement released Saturday, the General Staff said its investigation determined that "complicated weather and geographical conditions" were solely responsible for the crash, which occurred in a mountainous region in northwest Iran. It rejected suggestions of technical failure, sabotage, terrorism, explosions, or electronic warfare.

Speculations circulating online about Raisi’s martyrdom were labeled as “unfounded” and driven by ignorance or ulterior motives, the statement added.

Earlier, the brother of Raisi’s former security chief claimed in an interview that the entourage had been advised against the trip to the Azerbaijan border. Additionally, MP Hamid Rasaei raised questions about the incident, saying, “What happened to the president remains a question mark.”

The crash on May 19, 2024, claimed the lives of Raisi, then-Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and six others. Ebrahim Raisi was later buried at the Shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad, his hometown.
