Moscow (IP) - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia said the Iran-Russia agreement was automatically extended for another five years based on the new capacities, and the two countries are updating the agreement for the approval of both parties.

Iran Press/Europe: Kazem Jalali, referring to the 20-year period of the Tehran-Moscow Agreement on Mutual Relations and Principles of Cooperation, which expires today, said: "This agreement was automatically extended for another five years based on the new capacities, and the two countries are updating the agreement for the approval of both parties."

In an interview on Friday, Jalali said: "The agreement on the basis of mutual relations and principles of cooperation between Iran and Russia was ratified by the two sides on such a day 20 years ago and it was decided that after the 20-year deadline, if the two countries, Iran and Russia, do not declare a point  or consideration to the other party one year before the end of the treaty period, it can be automatically extended for five years, and it can be extended in the same way every five years."

The Agreement on Mutual Relations and Principles of Cooperation between Iran and Russia was signed by the two sides on March 1, 2001, in 21 articles, during the visit of the then President of Iran to Moscow. 

In honor of this day, Jalali expressed hope that the relations between the two countries would expand day by day. 

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran said: "The high-ranking officials of the two countries, considering the horizon of future cooperation, have announced their agreement to update and extend this agreement, and both sides are determined to conclude a long-term joint cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia."

Kazem Jalali said: "The agreement on the basis of mutual relations and principles of cooperation between Iran and Russia was signed nearly 20 years ago, and during this period, many changes have taken place in the field of international relations, the regional and bilateral relations between the two countries." 

Jalali stated: "The current level of relations and cooperation between Iran and Russia is much higher than in previous decades, while the cooperation between the two sides has become deeper and more meaningful and there are many capacities in the relations between the two countries that should be addressed in a comprehensive cooperation plan."
