Iran Press/ America: The Islamic Republic of Iran has strategic cooperation with Syria, and Tehran's support for the legitimate government of this country during the Syrian crisis and helping the Assad's government in the process of fighting various terrorist groups serve as proof of this.
In this regard, Amir Saeed Iravani, the ambassador and permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, said on Monday at the meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding the chemical case in Syria: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is the main victim of chemical weapons, condemns the use of such weapons as a crime against humanity and a blatant violation of international law."
He further stressed:" The political approach towards the Syrian file has been a failed strategy, jeopardizing the process aimed at resolving outstanding issues."
Stating that the use of chemical weapons is a crime against humanity and a clear violation of international laws, Irvani stated: "Iran voices concern over the exploitation and politicization of the Convention and OPCW, causing division among the Member States and weakening the credibility and legitimacy of the disarmament machinery."
The ambassador and permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations said:" Iran supports a constructive dialogue between Syria and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons at the highest level, with a specific time frame for solving the remaining issues and finally closing the case."
Further, applying double standards will only distract from the technical nature of discussions, he said, emphasizing that any investigation must be impartial, professional, credible, objective, and comply with the Convention’s procedures.
In addition, he stressed that holding monthly meetings on the Syrian chemical weapons file, despite no developments being made, is counterproductive and a waste of the Council’s time.
The meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding the Syrian chemical case is held monthly, but some countries do not want to hold it monthly.
