New York (IP) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Trade of Malta met and discussed issues of mutual interest on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Iran PressAmerica: According to Iran Press, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed hope in the meeting with Ian Borg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Trade of Malta, on Thursday, referring to the good records of the two countries' commercial cooperation in the past, the cooperation will be on the right track soon.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran pointed out the cooperation capacities of the two countries in the fields of fisheries, agriculture, medicine, and technology and said that he is interested in strengthening the cooperation between Iran and Malta in the fields of ports and shipping.

Iran's foreign minister also pointed to Malta's membership in the United Nations Security Council and considered it an opportunity to play a constructive role in international justice.

Amir-Abdollahian also pointed out Malta's membership in the European Union and European structures and said that in the meeting with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, it was agreed that more dialogues between Iran and the Union should be held.

Amir-Abdollahian also explained Iran's positions on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement and negotiations on the lifting of sanctions, Palestine and Ukraine.

Ian Borg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Trade of Malta, also expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and said that he is interested in friendly and constructive cooperation with Iran.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Trade of Malta added that there is a need for a meeting and dialogue to understand international developments better and that Malta supports the progress of positive developments in foreign and regional relations with Iran.
