Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking through a video conference, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Japan's Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Takeo Mori discussed bilateral, regional, and international interested issues for two countries as well as cooperation in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two officials also stressed the need to continue consultations and use the capacity of good relations between the two countries for the expansion of cooperation in different kinds of fields.
Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe visited Iran on 12 June 2019. President Hassan Rouhani also visited Tokyo the same year on December 20.
On March 20, 2020, In the early hours of Persian New Year, Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan held a phone conversation, discussing the fight against the outbreak of coronavirus and lifting US unilateral sanctions against the Iranian nation.
During the phone call, Mohammad Javad Zarif exchanged views with ith his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi on with the most important international and regional developments, praising the Japanese government's assistance to the Iranian nation in the fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and outlined the wider scope of Iran's efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
