Iran is ready to reopen its land trade routes with Iraq

Iran's deputy ambassador to Iraq said on Friday that the country is ready to reopen its border crossings with Iraq.

Iran PressMiddle East: In an interview with the Al-Murbad website, Musa Alizadeh Tabatabai stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to reopen the border crossings with Iraq in order to resume trade with the observance of protocols and health guidelines.

He expressed hope that the relevant authorities in Iraq would provide the necessary conditions for the resumption of trade in the interests of the two nations of Iraq and Iran.

"Currently, 80% of our country's border trade crossings with other countries are open with full observance of health protocols and with high standards, and the exchange of goods is taking place in them," he said.

Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the activity of Iranian-Iraqi land border crossings in the southern regions of Iraq has been suspended for preventive measures against the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

Goods exchanging is currently underway on the borders of the Kurdistan Region in accordance with health protocols, and other border crossings in southern Iraq are expected to reopen in immediate future.
