Iran Press/ Iran news: Speaking at the ceremony of unveiling the infrastructural projects of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry on Thursday, Hassan Rouhani said today, the digital economy is considered as a large and important area for the country.
Rouhani pointed out to the importance of internet in providing people with services in such areas as agriculture and health saying: "in the digital economy space, the use of cyberspace and the Internet to provide job services is faster, more accurate, and less expensive, and this model is more reliable".
"In these difficult times of the coronavirus outbreak, people could further see the development of IT, and many tasks and services were provided using IT and cyberspace," Rouhani added.
He also highlighted the role of IT in political procedures such as election campaigns, informing people, and peoples' participation in elections and asserted that transparency and fighting corruption are important issues that could be addressed through virtual space rather than through traditional mechanisms.
The Iranian president said if Iran wants to compete with other countries in the economy sector, it inevitably must develop and pave the ground for it.
Prior to the President, the ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi who attended the ceremony presented a record of the ministry's acts in the information and communication technology area to develop digital economy and support the Corona-impacted start-ups.
Digital economy can be the best alternative to the oil-dependent economy as well as for getting out of the troubles, Azari Jahromi said.
