Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - The spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry described the 8 countries' letter to the UN secretary-general to lift anti-Iran sanctions as a unique measure.

Iran PressIran News: Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman  Seyyed Abbas Mousavi stressed on Saturday that the world must come to its own senses and prevent unilateralism and violation of international law because during the recent years the Americans dared to imposed their domestic laws and cruel sanctions on other countries.

Noting that the United States is imposing sanctions on independent states for specific purposes, Mousavi expressed hope that sanctioned countries, and even free and independent states that do not tolerate US unilateralism, form a union and prevent US bullying.

Iran’s senior diplomat went on to say that "The international community must take consistent action not only under the conditions created due to COVID-19 outbreak but also under normal circumstances, in the face of cruel and inhuman sanctions imposed by the United States which is orchestrated not only against Iran but also against independent states."

Mousavi also called for resistance against US outrageous sanctions or at least disregarding them.

Russia, China, Syria, Cuba, Nicaragua, North Korea, Venezuela, and Iran have recently issued a joint letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the lifting of unilateral US sanctions against Iran that have hampered efforts to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.

Several distinguished academics including Noam Chomsky, Hamid Dabashi, Robert Crews, and John Packer have signed a letter addressed to the leaders of the P4+1 countries and US lawmakers to "End Iran Sanctions".

Meanwhile, a diverse group of US academics, researchers and NGO leaders have signed an open letter addressed to the leaders of the P4+1 countries (United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, and Russia) and the US lawmakers, calling on them to lift sanctions on Iran impeding Iranian campaign against coronavirus.

Several distinguished academics including Noam Chomsky, Hamid Dabashi, Robert Crews, and John Packer have signed this letter which was drafted and coordinated by the Institute for Peace and Diplomacy.

Through their letter, the academics and civil society activists have called for putting pressure on the administration of the US President Donald Trump to remove unilateral sanctions against Iran.
