Urmia (IP) - The water level of Lake Urmia in the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan has increased to 1,271 meters and 44 centimeters, which is 60 centimeters more than the water level on the corresponding date of last year.

Iran PressIran news:  The Lake contains 3,840 million cubic meters, which rises by 1,600 million cubic meters.

According to experts, during the current water year, 466 cubic meters of water is to be released from the dams of Lake Urmia, which has so far released 266 million cubic meters.

Lake Urmia is located in the far northwest corner of Iran between the two provinces of West and East Azerbaijan.

Lake Urmia is the largest saltwater lake in West Asia and the sixth-largest saltwater lake in the world.

It is home to many migratory and indigenous animals including flamingos, pelicans, egrets, and ducks and attracted hundreds of tourists every year who had bathed in the water to take advantage of the therapeutic properties of the lake.
