Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Monday that the Islamic Republic is ready to help alleviate the worsening situation in Yemen, and called on the international community to speed up the operations to send humanitarian aids to the war-torn country.
Iran's Foreign Ministry urges the sides to seize the opportunity to take effective steps toward confidence-building and reaching a comprehensive consensus over the issue so as to put an end to the dire situation of Yemeni people, Iran Press reported.
With only a few days to the UN sponsored peace talks on Yemen, Saudi Arabia has stepped up its attacks on the besieged Red Sea port city of Hudaydah, the only port through which most humanitarian aid and essential items for Yemen pass through.
The United Nations has warned that Yemen is on the brink of a major catastrophe.
In recent months, the United Nations has increased pressure on the two sides to pursue a negotiated end to the conflict, as observers stress that a diplomatic solution is the only way to avert a man-made famine.
Saudi airstrikes and supporting war in the ground on Hudaydah as the only port which humanitarian aid flows to the country led to warnings by UN aid officials.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Lowcock warned on Saturday that Yemen is “on the brink of a major catastrophe,” as the world body pushes for peace talks in the war-wracked country.
Meanwhile when the two-warring Yemeni sides agreed to engage in a new peace talks sponsored by the United Nations in Sweden over the next few days in a fresh attempt to end almost four years of fighting, Saudi Arabia has stepped up its attacks on Hudaydah, in order to gain the upper hand in the upcoming 'peace talks'.
The fighting in Hodeidah - the main gateway for imports of relief supplies and commercial goods - escalated earlier this year following a flurry of Saudi attacks against Yemen.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating military campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the aim of bringing back the government of Hadi back to power and crushing the country’s Houthi Ansarullah movement.
The assaults of the Saudi-led coalition forces have failed to stop the Yemenis from resisting the aggression. Recently, the Yemeni army unveiled its home-made underground missile launching pads.
