War in Yemen

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran’s peace plan for Yemen is a viable option for ending the bloodshed.

Iran Press: Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in his latest tweet about the war in Yemen, has revived a three-and-a-half year-old peace plan, first proposed back in 2015, at the beginning of the Saudi   military aggression against Yemen, Iran press reported.

On Friday Zarif tweeted: "I said this on the crisis in Yemen in April 2015. Today, after untold human suffering & war crimes by the Saudi coalition & its U.S. accomplices, & efforts to whitewash their crimes with absurd allegations against Iran, our four-point plan still remains the only viable option." https://t.co/7CqVTIduF9

Zarif had tweeted back in April 2015 that "war on Yemen must be stopped". We urge ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, intra-Yemeni dialogue and establishment of broad-based government."

In Friday's tweet, Zarif noted that Iran's “four-point plan still remains the only viable option. The four-point plan, submitted to then UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2015, includes 1) Ceasefire and an immediate end to all foreign military attacks; 2) Unimpeded urgent humanitarian and medical assistance to the people of Yemen; 3) Resumption of Yemeni-lead and Yemeni-owned national dialogue, with the participation of the representatives of all political parties and social groups; and 4) Establishment of an inclusive national unity government.

Also in his recent trip to Madrid Spain, Iranian foreign minister had urged the formation of a new inclusive Yemeni government with participation of all Yemeni political groups.

In Madrid, Zarif also floated the idea of Iran's four-point peace plan, and emphasized that the Yemeni crisis can only be solved by the Yemeni people themselves.
