Iran Press/ Asia: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari has held talks with Tanzania's minister of fishery and deputy foreign ministers from Japan, South Africa, and Guinea on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Conference.
Safari and other participants in the meetings examined the latest state of bilateral economic cooperation and ways of developing and strengthening economic relations. They also discussed holding joint commissions and exchanging business delegations.
Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)includes 23 countries of South Africa, India, Iran, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Australia, UAE, Oman, Yemen, Bangladesh, Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Seychelles and France that started its activity in 1997 with the initiative of India and Mauritius.
China, Japan, Egypt, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America are also observer countries in the international organization.
Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was formed to improve and accelerate economic cooperation and gather government representatives, businessmen, and universities.
The Islamic Republic of Iran became a member of the Union of Indian Ocean Countries in March 1999 with the approval of Iran's parliament.
