Tehran (IP) – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman condoled the South Korean government and nation over a stampede during a festival in the country in which dozens of people had been killed.

Iran PressIran News:  At least 149 people were killed and another 150 injured after they were crushed in a large Halloween crowd in Seoul on Saturday night, the city’s fire department said, in one of the deadliest peacetime accidents in South Korea’s recent history.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani sympathized with the victims' families on Sunday.

He expressed hope that the South Korean officials would take the necessary measures to identify the victims' bodies as soon as possible.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed out that the Iranian embassy in Seoul has confirmed that the bodies of five Iranian nationals have so far been identified among those killed in the incident.

The Iranian embassy has been following up on the case since the very early hours of the incident to get complete information about the conditions of the Iranian nationals and those possibly injured or missing, Kanaani stated.

He highlighted that legal and consular follow-up of the case of the Iranian nationals killed in the incident would be high on the agenda of the Iranian embassy.
