Tehran (IP) – Iran has condemned the continued political and financial backing of the MKO terrorists by Western nations, asserting that the "sinister ambitions" of the group and its supporters will ultimately fail. The statement came from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani, who marked the National Day of Fight against Terrorism with a strong denunciation of the MKO's terrorist activities.

Iran Press/Iran news: The National Day of Fight against Terrorism commemorates the tragic 1981 martyrdom of Iran’s then-President Mohammad-Ali Rajaei and Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar. Both leaders, along with several officials, were martyred in a bomb explosion during a meeting of Iran's Supreme Defense Council at the prime minister's office in Tehran. The attack, conducted by the MKO terrorists, remains a somber reminder of the group's terrorist nature.

Kan’ani highlighted the MKO's extensive history of criminal acts against the Iranian people, describing the organization as "mercenaries of the US and Israel." He said the MKO promotes state terrorism and playing a direct role in the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists. According to Kan’ani, the MKO’s terrorist activities, supported by certain Western countries that profess to champion human rights, have resulted in the deaths of 17,000 Iranians.

Having failed to overthrow the Islamic Republic, he noted that the terrorist group resorted to "indiscriminate and organized" assassinations after their political ambitions were thwarted. Following their expulsion from Iran, the MKO leadership sought refuge in France and continued their terrorist activities against the Iranians with Western financial support.

Kan’ani also recalled the MKO's alliance with former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War, underscoring the group's willingness to collaborate with Iran's enemies.

Despite its violent history, the MKO has found support in the West, particularly after being removed from the US and EU terrorist lists in recent years. The group's members were relocated from their base in Iraq to Albania, where they continue to operate freely. The MKO’s ability to hold meetings with American and European officials has drawn sharp criticism from Tehran, which is seen as an endorsement of the terrorist group's actions.
