Amir-Abdollahian:
Iran Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Tehran(IP)- Referring to the US's bad record in fulfilling its obligations, the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that the US House of Representatives should issue a political statement regarding Washington's commitments toward the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Iran PressIran News: The eighth round of sanctions talks began in Vienna on December 27 and has resumed on February 8, 2022, after a short break to consult delegations in their capitals.

In an exclusive interview with the Financial Times, Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said Washington had failed to address Iran’s demand for guarantees that no party is able to abandon the deal, as the US did under former President Donald Trump in 2018. Tehran also wants all sanctions imposed by Trump to be lifted.

"As a matter of principle, public opinion in Iran cannot accept as a guarantee the words of a head of state, let alone the United States, due to the withdrawal of Americans from the JCPOA,” Amir-Abdollahian added.

Emphasizing the lifting of all unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the head of Iran's diplomatic service said: "Iran wants the talks to lead to the" complete lifting "of sanctions, but Joe Biden government only wants to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Iran under Trump."

"That Trump unilaterally and unjustly imposed sanctions on real and legal entities in Iran under some allegations as Iran’s missile program, regional issues or human rights is not acceptable,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

Amir-Abdollahian stated: “Iran’s commitments are as clear as a mathematical formula. It is absolutely clear what we are supposed to do and how these measures will be verified through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) [the UN nuclear watchdog]."

Amir- Abdollahian also said about the signals of US officials about direct talks with the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran: "US officials have sent" many messages "for direct talks with Iran, but the country has rejected all these proposals."
